Theme: Pet Bird’s atrocities
Introduction: In this story , Asha Nehemiah pictured humourously the atrocities of a pet bird named Zigzag .
Zigzag’s Arrival:
Dr. Somu requested his cousin Dr.Krishnan to take care of his pet bird Zigzag as he was leaving for Alaska . Zigzag was the most lovable , unusual and harmless bird . Mrs. Krishnan was not happy with the arrival of the new pet . She was busy drawing paintings for the art exhibition . Dr. Somu sent Zigzag through Visu , his cook . Visu explained Zigzag’s qualities and skills . But Zigzag looked very cool and calm .
Chaos caused by Zigzag in the house:
When Zigzag was offered some fruits and nuts , it picked them up and deposited on the chandeliers and the blades of the fan . Zigzag began to sleep and snore . Its snore disturbed Dr.Krishnan’s family and their neighbours also . When Lakshmi , the servant – maid , switched on the fan , it was raining papayas and bananas in that room . One slice of over – ripc papaya splattered orange pulp on Mrs.Krishnan’s painting . She got angry . Zigzag’s changed behaviour Dr.Krishnan’s family refused to keep Zigzag in their house due to its atrocities . So Dr.Krishnan took it to his clinic . Dr. Krishnan warned Zigzag not to sleep in the clinic . Zigzag began to control the patients . It asked everybody to be silent . Zigzag’s behaviour was totally changed . Dr. Krishnan was surprised to see the sudden change of the bird .
Mind Change of Dr.Krishnan’s family:
Zigzag kindly comforted the crying children . Zigzag’s recitation of French poetry caused laughter among the children . At home , Mrs.Krishnan’s ruined painting was sold for Rs.5000 because of the orange colour . All these co – incidents changed the minds of Dr. Krishanan’s family .
Conclusion:
Dr.Krishnan’s family wanted to keep Zigzag with them for another week . The story was really a humourous one. Moral : There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
