Tigers do not kill human beings normally. When they grow old or get hurt they are unable to hunt wild animals. They start killing human beings. People cannot run as fast as animals. Therefore they become easy prey. After eating human flesh, tigers do not eat any other flesh. They become man-caters.
10. How was the Champawat Tiger killed?
At first Jim Corbett made many attempts to hunt the tigress. But they became unsuccessful. Then the tigress killed a 16-year old village girl. It took place near Champawat. The animal left a trail of blood. Corbett followed it. A whole day passed. They couldn’t track the tigress. The next day a bait was organised with 300 villagers. The tigress was shot dead near the Chataar Bridge, in Champawat by Jim Corbett.
11. What were the findings of the postmortem?
A postmortem on the tigress showed the broken teeth of the animal. The canine tooth in the upper jaw was broken in half. The canine tooth in the lower jaw showed it broken right to the bone. Both the teeth were broken on the right side, Jim Corbett said that the injury was due to a gunshot from a hunter.
